Demonstration. This is a sample digital product passport. The company, the product, the document numbers and every value shown are invented and exist only to show what a passport looks like. They describe no real item and no real company.

Note: Regulation (EU) 2025/2509 on the safety of toys requires the manufacturer to create a digital product passport before placing a toy on the market (Art. 19(1)), and the passport replaces the EU declaration of conformity. The Regulation applies from 1 August 2030. The Commission’s delegated act on the data carrier and access rights has not been adopted yet, so the structure shown is a working one, not a final list of fields.

Safety assessment Carried out before placing on the market — all hazards
Hazards covered Chemical, physical and mechanical, flammability, hygiene
EN 71-1 — mechanical and physical properties Passed
EN 71-2 — flammability Passed
EN 71-3 — migration of certain elements Passed — within the limits for category III (scraped-off material)
CE marking Yes — on the toy and the packaging
Test reports and technical documentation For authorities
Today a toy is accompanied by an EU declaration of conformity as a separate document. Under Regulation (EU) 2025/2509 the digital product passport takes over that role: the conformity data is read through the data carrier on the toy, not from a sheet of paper in the box.

Minimum age 3 years — contains small parts
Supervision Recommended for children under 5
Magnets None — the wagons connect with wooden hooks
Batteries and electronics None
Pull cord None — the train is pushed by hand
The warnings stay on the packaging. The passport also gives them in the buyer’s language, together with instructions for use that do not fit on the box.

PFAS: None
Endocrine disruptors: None
CMR substances (carcinogenic, mutagenic, toxic for reproduction): None
Heavy metals in the paints: Migration below the EN 71-3 limits
Formaldehyde: The glue is formaldehyde-free PVAc
Fragrances: None added
The new Regulation tightens the rules on chemicals in toys, including PFAS and endocrine disruptors. The passport shows the outcome publicly, while the test reports stay at the “authorities” access tier.

The wood comes from FSC-certified forests. The certificate number and the forestry unit sit at the “professionals” tier; the public tier shows the species and its share.

Cyber resilience (CRA) Not applicable
Radio equipment Not applicable
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) Not applicable
Low voltage Not applicable
RoHS Not applicable
Artificial intelligence Not applicable
Article 19(5) lets the toy passport also carry the information from the declarations of conformity under the acts on cyber resilience, radio equipment, electromagnetic compatibility, low voltage, RoHS and artificial intelligence. For a talking doll or a programmable robot that means one passport instead of several separate declarations. The wooden train has no electronics, so these rows are empty here.

Supplier names sit at the “professionals” access tier — visible to retailers, importers and market authorities, not to competitors. The public tier shows the country and the stage.

Cleaning With a damp cloth · not dishwasher-safe
Spare parts Wheels, axles and hooks — 5 years after the batch
Packaging Cardboard box, 140 g · no plastic window
End of life The wood and the steel separate by hand
Wooden toys often outlive their first child. Spare wheels and hooks let the train be repaired and passed on to the next one, rather than thrown away over a single lost part.
This is the public tier. The full working structure is with us.

The safety assessment, the EN 71 reports, the chemicals data and the declaration of conformity are already documents you keep. From 1 August 2030 they have to reach the market as a digital product passport. WIARA maintains a working field structure for toys so you are ready when the Commission adopts the delegated act. If you make toys, start from what you already have.
