Demonstration. This is a sample digital product passport. The company, the product, the document numbers and every value shown are invented and exist only to show what a passport looks like. They describe no real item and no real company.

Note: the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2025/40, PPWR) does not require a digital product passport for packaging. This is a voluntary passport. It brings together the data PPWR does require — material, recyclability, recycled content, the EU declaration of conformity, the manufacturer’s identity and the sorting label — so every customer of the box maker receives it without anyone sending it by email.

Outer liner Kraftliner, 140 g/m²
Flutes B + C, fluting from recycled fibre
Inner liners Testliner from recycled fibre
Corrugating adhesive Starch-based
Print Flexographic print with water-based inks, 1 colour
Closure Paper tape — no plastic tape
The box is a single material stream — paper and board. The starch adhesive and the water-based inks do not get in the way of recycling at a paper mill.

Recycling stream Paper and board (the blue bin)
Design for recycling No plastic layers, wax coatings or metal
Recycled content 78% of the fibre — declared by the manufacturer
Virgin fibre 22% — from certified forests
Evidence of recycled content For professionals
By 2030 PPWR introduces recyclability and recycled-content targets for packaging. The passport shows your customers where this packaging stands today — with data, not a promise in a sales offer.

EU declaration of conformity No. GY-DoC-2026-0031 · under Art. 39 and Annex VIII
Manufacturer Gofropak Yantra OOD, Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria
Conformity contact compliance@gofropak.example
Food contact Not intended for direct food contact
Technical documentation For authorities
PPWR requires an EU declaration of conformity for packaging (Art. 39, with the content set out in Annex VIII). Today it travels as a PDF between the box maker and its customers. In the passport it sits with the product itself and is always the current version.

Harmonised sorting label Prepared — mandatory from 12 August 2028 or 24 months after the implementing act
Data carrier QR code printed on the side flap
Batch marking 2026-10-L118
The implementing act that defines the harmonised sorting label is overdue. PPWR sets the date as 12 August 2028 or 24 months after that act is adopted, so the label here is prepared but not yet final.
Where another EU act requires product information to be provided through a data carrier, one carrier can serve both the product and its packaging (Art. 12(5), last subparagraph). For a customer whose product has an ESPR digital passport, that means one QR code on the box, not two.

Board grammage 640 g/m²
Edge crush resistance (ECT) 7.6 kN/m
Box compression resistance (BCT) 4.8 kN
Maximum load 20 kg of contents · up to 4 tiers on a pallet
Empty space The size is chosen to fit the customer’s product
Customers ask for these values before ordering anyway. In the passport they belong to the specific batch, alongside the conformity data.

Supplier names sit at the “professionals” access tier — visible to customers, auditors and market authorities, not to competitors. The public tier shows the country and the stage.

For the end user Flatten the box and put it in the paper bin
For businesses Bale and hand over to a licensed collector
Reuse Suitable for 2–3 trips in dry conditions
Corrugated board is among the best-recycled packaging in Europe. The fibre from this box can come back as fluting in the next one.
This is the public tier. The full working structure is with us.

The declaration of conformity, the recycled-content data and the technical performance are already documents you send your customers with every order. A voluntary passport puts them with the batch itself, in every language. WIARA maintains a working field structure for packaging under PPWR. If you make packaging, start from what you already have.
